Statue of Liberty

We were on the first Ferry over to Liberty Island on the
morning of July 5, 2001.

This photo was taken on the Ferry ride to Liberty Island.
Doug's looking like a true New Yorker!

The boys at an actual size replica of the Statue's face.
Caleb was offering to pick her nose!

We climbed all 350+ stairs up to the crown of the Statue!
It took us about an hour to get up, due to the high volume of people.
We don't recommend the climb for anyone who is claustrophobic!

A picture taken out the windows of the Crown.  The area inside the Crown
can only accommodate approximately five or six people at a time.  The
Park Rangers were encouraging everyone to get their pictures quickly and
then to start down the stairs, so they could get more people through the line.
They close the trip up to the Crown around 10:00AM, because the inside
of the statue gets too hot.
